Starting at the tender age
of 5 Rachael realised her strong passion and love for horses. She
began pony club and started competitions both at gymkhanas and the
local country shows. At 8 Rachael’s parents, Robyn and Les, bought
her first show pony, Bindi Eye Petite and it was from here a love
for showing horses developed. At 10 a young pony, (whom Rachael
attributes a lot of her training knowledge to) Warrawong Park
Songbird was purchased, and so the journey of two best
friends began.
A fairly highly strung,
difficult pony, Songbird in the early days was never easy.
Perseverence and determination prevailed though and they became a
fantastic combination teaching and learning from each other, even
if it were how to sit a big shy or buck. They ended up making a
formidable partnership that ended up with success at local and
state level competitions and training to Medium level dressage. So
many lessons were learned and it was a friendship between young
girl and pony that prospered for many years. Unfortunately, the
hardest lesson Songbird taught was how and when to say goodbye. She
died on a miserable rainy night in October 2005 at the age of 15
from a suspected snake bite. Songbird also taught that patience,
kindness and trust are the ultimate keys to achieving the best
results possible.
Since Songbird there have been
many horses that Rachael has schooled and competed with success,
each one teaching their own lesson and helping Rachael to form her
individual approach to training and handling. Some notable
ones and their achievements are: Spanish City,
Manorvale Lalique, Rathowen
Coronet, Heatherbrae
Matrix, Megawati,
Rathowen Reflective, Cedar Lakes
Lovenote Heatherbrae Flash Jack, Lord Of The Rings, Rossington, Northwood
Seduction.
